Ibadan Book Club to Host University of Ibadan Students at June Book Talk

 

IBADAN BOOK CLUB TO HOST UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN STUDENTS AT JUNE BOOK TALK


 

The June edition of Ibadan Book Talk, a monthly literary event organized by Ibadan Book Club, is set to spotlight three emerging literary voices from the University of Ibadan.

The event will host campus writers Olowosokedile Ayomide Aduke, Morenike Aduke, and Agboola Tariq A. as featured readers and discussants.

The reading is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Oyo State Library Board, opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State. Proceedings will commence at 12 PM prompt.

This was made known in a press release issued by the Founder of Ibadan Book Club, Wole Adedoyin, in Ibadan on Saturday. According to Adedoyin, the event will provide a platform for the student-writers to share their creative works, discuss their literary journeys, and interact with an audience of book lovers, aspiring writers, and members of the literary community.

Ibadan Book Talk is an initiative of Ibadan Book Club aimed at nurturing a vibrant literary culture within the city and promoting young and emerging writers across Nigeria. Each edition of the program features readings, book discussions, and conversations that celebrate literature and its role in personal and societal development.

One of the featured readers, Olowosokedile Ayomide Aduke, is a Nigerian writer, poet, and 300-level student of English at the University of Ibadan. She explores themes such as identity, memory, and freedom through reflective storytelling. Her poem, Yes, I am African, delves into the pride of African heritage and cultural strength. Ayomide is currently working on a memoir chronicling her childhood and emotional growth, as well as a growing portfolio of published essays and poems.

Also to be featured is Morenike Aduke, the pen name of Adeoye Oluwayemisi Rachel, a master's student in the Department of Zoology, University of Ibadan. A native of Ibadan, Morenike discovered her passion for writing during her teenage years. Her journey as a writer intensified during her NYSC service in Benue State, where she wrote and performed for her fellow corps members. Her academic pursuit is deeply tied to her love for documenting and researching the world through words.

Joining them is Agboola Tariq A., a poet and law student at the University of Ibadan. He currently serves as the Literary Head of the Literary and Debate Society of the University. A prolific young writer, Tariq’s poetry has been featured or is forthcoming in Lucent Dreaming, Magma Poetry, Aké Review, ANMLY, and SoFloPoJo, among others. He recently emerged as the winner of the Blessing Kolajo Poetry Prize 2024 and was the first runner-up for the Fireflies Prize 2024.

According to Wole Adedoyin, the event will not only celebrate the literary gifts of these young minds but also serve as an encouragement for other students and youths to embrace writing and intellectual engagement as tools for social expression and personal growth.

Members of the public, literary enthusiasts, students, and writers are all invited to attend the event and interact with the guest writers. Admission is free, and the event promises an afternoon of insightful conversation, poetry, and literary exploration.

Adebolu, Omeiza To Headline May Edition of Ibadan Book Talk

The Ibadan Book Club (IBC) has announced that two distinguished Ibadan-based literary voices, Goodness Adebolu (popularly known by her pen name, Ola Chi) and Abdulrazaq Godwin Omeiza, will headline the May edition of its monthly literary event, Ibadan Book Talk. 


Scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2025, the event will hold at the Board Room of the Oyo State Library Board, opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan, beginning promptly at 12:00 PM.


The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Founder of Ibadan Book Club, Wole Adedoyin, who expressed great enthusiasm about the event and its featured guests. He described the upcoming edition as “a celebration of both emerging and established literary voices,” adding that Adebolu and Omeiza “represent the vibrancy and diversity of Nigeria’s evolving literary landscape.”


This edition of Ibadan Book Talk is being organized in collaboration with the Redeemed Writers Network (REDNET) and Global Word Crafters (GLOWCRAFT)—two literary bodies committed to promoting creative writing and literary excellence. The partnership is expected to strengthen the local literary community and provide more opportunities for engagement, dialogue, and artistic collaboration among writers, poets, artists, and readers.


Goodness Adebolu, known by her pen name Ola Chi, is an international ESL teacher, playwright, blogger, and author. A literary enthusiast from a young age, she credits her parents for nurturing her love for books and storytelling. Her storytelling journey began early, culminating in recognition when her short story Adizah won third runner-up in the Princewill Okigbo Short Story Prize in 2019.


Ola Chi’s work is known for its emotional depth and engaging narratives. Her short story The News is currently available on Amazon. In addition to her writing, she is an active member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Oyo State Chapter, and a British Council-trained teacher trainee.


Joining her as a co-headliner is the prodigious Abdulrazaq Godwin Omeiza, a Senior Secondary School 2 student of Government College Ibadan. An emerging voice in poetry and prose, Omeiza is fast gaining recognition for his talent and literary vision. He recently emerged as the winner of the Dr. Wale Okediran at 70 National Poetry Competition, a testament to his growing influence in literary circles.


Omeiza’s poetry explores themes of nature, transformation, memory, and the human condition, drawing deeply from his surroundings, school life, and mentors. His literary inspirations include prominent figures like Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof. Niyi Osundare, and his own teachers—Mrs. Sobo Olajumoyimikaakiri, Mr. Omotosho Seun, and Mr. Ogundare Abiodun—who have significantly shaped his writing path.


As Ibadan Book Talk continues to build its reputation as a literary hub in the southwest region, this May edition promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for attendees. Luqman Kolawole Onike, known in literary and artistic circles as Olukumo, is a multi-talented creative whose work transcends literature, performance poetry, culture, and social advocacy. Originally from Iseyin in Oyo State and currently residing in Ibadan, Onike uses the power of Yoruba poetry to address pressing societal issues while celebrating tradition and cultural identity.

Over the years, Onike has performed at several reputable literary and cultural events, including Nibstare Poetry Café, WORDS, RHYME and RHYTHM, Fadaka Festival, and the Beautiful Nubia concert. His compelling voice and stage presence have earned him features on television stations such as Startime Yoruba, Itage Television, and Orisun TV. His work is also widely distributed on YouTube and other digital platforms.

In addition to his poetry, Onike is an accomplished actor, film producer, and on-air personality. His rich creative portfolio includes works such as Olukumo (2017), Ekun Mekunnu (2018), ÀRỌDÁ (2018), Àwùjọ Odaju (2019), AKOKO (2023), Tewe Tegbo (2024), and his latest project, IGI EL’Ẹ̀GÚN (2025). With each work, he seeks to inspire, inform, and entertain, while preserving the essence of Yoruba storytelling.

Joining Onike is the rising visual artist Ogundimu Temiloluwa, a student of Visual Arts at the Federal College of Education. Temiloluwa is gaining recognition for an artistic style defined by fine detail, emotional depth, and creative innovation. With a particular interest in painting and pencil drawing, Temiloluwa uses art to convey complex ideas and evoke powerful emotions.

Temiloluwa credits much of his growth to the mentorship and influence of the renowned artist, Smog Art. Under this guidance, he has developed a unique artistic voice that continues to evolve with every new project. His participation in this month’s edition of Ibadan Book Talk will give attendees a glimpse into the intersections of visual art and literature.

The Ibadan Book Club (IBC) has announced that its upcoming Ibadan Book Talk will feature three esteemed writers: Iru-Davies Bonaventure Paulson, Ben Thompson D'Penlord, and Tunji Idris Shittu.

This much-anticipated event is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM, and will be held in the Board Room of the Oyo State Library Board, located opposite Cocoa House in Dugbe, Ibadan.

In a press release, IBC Founder Wole Adedoyin expressed enthusiasm about the diverse perspectives these writers bring, highlighting the club's commitment to celebrating literature and fostering creative discussions.

The March edition of Ibadan Book Talk is a collaborative effort between the Ibadan Book Club, the Redeemed Writers Network (REDNET), and Global Word Crafters (GLOWCRAFT). IRU-DAVIES BONAVENTURE PAULSON

Iru-Davies Bonaventure Paulson is a distinguished scholar, educator, and multifaceted professional with a strong academic foundation from St. Andrews College of Education, Oyo-Nigeria, the University of Ghana, Legon-Accra, and Bibliothèques de Science d'Aix Marseille, France. He holds an NCE in Agricultural Science and a first degree, complemented by numerous professional certifications. His diverse expertise spans across various fields, including farming, entrepreneurship, para-military service, teaching, humanitarian work, first aid, and publishing. A passionate literacy and history enthusiast, naturalist, social critic, and advocate for cultural exploration, he has dedicated his life to education, leadership, and community service. His hobbies, which include singing, reading, traveling, gardening, storytelling, and keeping pets, reflect his deep love for nature and knowledge-sharing.

His commitment to humanitarian service and leadership is evident in his extensive roles across various organizations. He has served as the School Unit Coordinator of the Nigerian Red Cross Society at both divisional and state levels, as well as in multiple leadership capacities within the Nigerian Scout Federation and the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS), where he currently holds the position of Africa Regional Secretary. A former unionist and an active contributor to religious and professional bodies, he has been an adviser and welfare officer for the League of Lay Readers in his church, a member of the UNESCO Fans Club in Ouagadougou, and a freelance reporter in Côte d'Ivoire for Radio France Internationale (RFI). Presently, he serves as the President of the Parish Laity Council, a leader in his old students' association, and the National Media Officer of the Association of Independent Publishers, Nigeria (AIPN). Happily married and blessed with children, Iru-Davies Bonaventure Paulson continues to inspire and impact lives through his numerous endeavors.

BEN THOMPSON D'PENLORD

Ben Thompson D'Penlord is a dynamic and multi-talented creative force with a profound impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry. Gbemisola, a graduate of the University of Abuja with a degree in Accounting, holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Peace and Conflict Studies, specializing in Human Security, from the University of Ibadan. Her academic background in peace studies complements her dedication to addressing societal issues through her writing, where she merges her faith and knowledge to craft impactful narratives.


Gbemisola’s writing is heavily inspired by her Christian faith and her extensive research in peace and conflict studies. Her works are deeply spiritual and intellectually stimulating, offering a unique perspective on topics of faith, human security, and societal healing. 


At the Ibadan Book Talk, Gbemisola will present her latest work, which reflects the divine inspiration she received during her time at Bible School. JP Clark Society Mourns Chief Edwin Clark

 JP CLARK SOCIETY MOURNS CHIEF EDWIN CLARK



The J.P. Clark Society has mourned the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, a distinguished statesman and elder brother to the renowned Nigerian poet, J.P. Clark. 


The Society, alongside countless admirers, shares in the grief of the Clark family, the Niger Delta region, and the entire nation over the loss of a true leader and visionary.


This was contained in a press statement issued by the Director of the Society, Wole Adedoyin.


Chief Edwin Clark, who passed away on the night of February 17, 2025, was a towering figure in Nigerian politics and culture. As the former Federal Commissioner for Information, his contributions to the nation’s political landscape were immeasurable. His insightful leadership in this crucial ministry helped shape the discourse on national unity and development during a significant period in Nigeria’s history.


In addition to his political career, Chief Clark was a respected elder statesman and a founding leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), a group that has played a pivotal role in advocating for the rights and interests of the Niger Delta region. His commitment to the advancement of the region, particularly in issues of social justice and sustainable development, earned him deep respect across the political and social spectrum.


Chief Edwin Clark’s loss is not only a personal tragedy for the Clark family but also a great loss to the Nigerian nation. His life’s work embodies the essence of service to the country, and his wisdom, leadership, and tireless advocacy for the Niger Delta will be remembered for generations to come. His contributions helped build bridges, foster dialogue, and bring attention to the plight of the people from the Niger Delta region.
